Govt delegation to Cardinal Dery’s elevation returns

Accra, March 29, GNA – Government delegation to the Vatican for the investiture of Emeritus Archbishop of Tamale Peter Cardinal Dery returned home on Tuesday night.

Professor George Hagan, Chairman of the National Commission on Culture and a member of the delegation, described the ceremony as an acknowledgement of the growth of the Catholic Church in Ghana. He said Cardinal Dery’s monumental elevation was not only recognition of his work in the Northern Region but also a blessing for the country.

Prof. Hagan said hundreds of Ghanaians travelled from different parts of Europe and America to witness Cardinal Dery’s elevation. He praised government for associating itself for the second time with honours the Catholic Church in Ghana has won.

Other members of the delegation were Peter Cardinal Appiah Turkson, Archbishop of Cape Coast, Mr Ambrose Dery, Upper West Regional Minister and Cardinal Dery’s junior brother, Alupio Pulko and his niece, Agatha Azumah.
