Task force impounds timber at Awaso

Awaso (W/R), March 21, GNA – A joint military and Forest Services Division (FSD) timber task force on Wednesday impounded a timber truck conveying five logs, which were alleged to have been felled in the Upper Wassa and Anhwiaso East forest reserves.

Mr Kodjo Korang, Bibiani District Manager of the FSD told the Ghana News Agency at Awaso that a skidder and two tractors, which were used in the illegal operations, had also been impounded and currently in the custody at the Ghana Primewood Products Limited sub-station at Awaso. He said as soon as the Awaso police and the FSD completed their investigations the next line of action would be taken.

Mr Korang commended the task force members for their vigilance in clamping down on the illegal timber operators in the District and appealed to all stakeholders to assist with information, which would lead to the arrest of illegal timber operators.
