Salaga and Bimbilla rainstorm victims cry for help

Accra, March 20, GNA – Alhaji Abubakar Saddique-Boniface, the Northern Regional Minister, has appealed for funds and technical assistance for victims of a rainstorm that swept through Bimbilla and Salaga.

On March 04 and 07 a rainstorm devastated parts of the two towns rendering many people homeless. “The district assemblies are doing their best but the magnitude of the devastation is greater than they can contain.” He said in Salaga 3,350 persons were rendered homeless, 115 houses destroyed, seven school buildings were destroyed.

The Minister said two persons sustain fractures in their limps and shoulders and a mosque and a church were badly affected. At Bimbilla many people were displaced, five houses and four school buildings were destroyed. He said the situation in both towns was pathetic because it was extremely difficult for most of the affected persons to rebuild their houses.
