Fears on ROBAB would be addressed

Accra, March 20, GNA – Mr Abraham Ossei-Aidooh on Friday said the concerns and fears that arose out of the Representation of the People (Amendment) Bill would be addressed. He said it was unfortunate that the Minority had to stay out of the chamber for a long time demonstrating instead of participating in the legislative processes that the bill went through.

Mr Ossei-Aidooh was giving his closing remarks at the end of the first meeting of the session of the Fourth Parliament of the Fourth Republic. He said: “We should be proud of ourselves that despite different shades of opinions that we have Ghana’s democracy is growing from strength to strength.” The Deputy Majority Leader said however that Majority would not surrender its strength in Parliament to the whims of the Minority if the two failed to achieve consensus.

Mr Alban S.K. Bagbin, the Minority Leader, expressed regret about the resignation of Professor Wayo Seini as the Member of Parliament for Tamale Central and said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) would regain that seat. He said the party had captured Odododiodio in Accra and Asawase in Kumasi and that the trend would continue. Mr Bagbin said the party would continue to co-operate with the Majority for the sake of democracy and constitutional rule in the country. He commended the media for its reportage in Parliament during the meeting despite the trying and difficult circumstances under which it operates.

Mr Ebenezer Begyina Sekyi Hughes, Speaker of Parliament commended members for their commitment to the business of the House. The House is expected to reconvene after seven weeks of recess.
