Take advantage of Non-Formal Education – Youth told

Ntankorful (W/R), March 19, GNA – The Very Reverend Emmanuel Ebow Walters, the Western Regional Manager of Methodist Schools said the young people, who could not continue or have no access to basic education should enrol with the non-formal education scheme. He said it was sad that several young people could not read nor write and usually depended on friends to assist them to read their letters. Rev. Walters was speaking at the first Young People Assembly of the Effiakuma Circuit of the Methodist Church at Ntankorful on Saturday. He said education was very critical and an essential tool that could not be ignored in ones daily activities.

Rev. Walters, who is also the Chairman of the Education and Youth Committee of the Church, said skills acquisition was a very vital tool that every young person must aspire to acquire. He said skills could be learnt alongside formal education but many young people ignored it. Rev. Walters said laziness, could ruin the future of the young people of Ghana and therefore advised them to be serious with their education to acquire more entrepreneurial skills and be innovative. He reminded them that they must not panic, when the eclipse occurs on March 29. Rev. Walters however, reminded them to acquire the specially manufactured sunglasses meant for their eyes before they watch the eclipse.

Mr Kingsley Sam, Effiakuma Circuit Youth Organiser (CYO) said the assembly was meant to raise a new generation of young people, who would change the fortunes of the Methodist Church for the better. He said series of skills acquisition programmes, such as career choosing, guidance and counselling were among some of the topics to be treated.
