Landlord charged with assault and causing harm

Accra, June 29, GNA – Sulley Bukari, a landlord, who mercilessly assaulted his tenant, Ms Ajara Abdallah, following a misunderstanding between them has been remanded in custody by an Accra Public Tribunal. Bukari, 47, who is a driver, pleaded not guilty to assault and causing harm.

He would appear again on July seven. Police Inspector Alex Yartey Tawiah, prosecuting, told the tribunal that Miss Ajara is a trader and a tenant staying in Bukari’s house at Nyamekye in Accra.

There have been persistent rifts between them for the past five months and the matter was before the Rent Control Office.

He said on June three, Ajara bought some goats from Tamale and sold them, but left one, which she tied on the compound.

The prosecutor said later in the evening when Bukari returned from town, he cut the rope to release the goat and when Ajara questioned his action, he became offended and beat her until she became unconscious.

Inspector Tawiah said the victim was then rushed to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, where she regained consciousness and a report was made to the Women and Juvenile Unit of the Police Service, who arrested Bukari.
