High Court orders sale of chief’s house

Kumasi, March 13, GNA – A High Court at Kumasi on Friday ordered that a house at Oforikrom in Kumasi belonging to Nana Kofi Adusei, Odikro of Atwima-Koforidua should be sold at a price not lower than 298 million cedis being the equivalent of court costs awarded against him in a land case. The order followed the persistent refusal of Nana Adusei to pay the cost to Mr John Osei Kusi in the land case. Nana Adusei filed a writ against Mr Kusi about three years ago claiming that a piece of land situated at Nterkyerekyi near Atwima-Koforidua was his ancestral land.

In his defence, Mr Kusi said Nana Adusei was a mere caretaker of the land for his (Kusi’s) family and could therefore not lay claim to the said land. He tendered in evidence documents to support his case and this enabled the court to dismiss Nana Adusei’s case. The court had awarded cost of 17 million cedis to Mr Kusi.
