High Court grants interim injunction restraining enskinment

Tamale, March 4, GNA – A Tamale High Court on Thursday granted an interim injunction restraining the Silmanwura, Mahama Abdulai and one Anor from the Denkere Royal Gate in Buipe from engaging in any preparation towards the enskinment of a next Buipewura (Chief of Buipe, in the Central Gonja District).

In his ruling, the presiding Judge, Mr Justice Victor E. Doegah, said: “Upon reading the Motion Paper and its support and opposing affidavits and upon further hearing from counsel for the respective parties, it has been concluded that the accession to the Buipe skin is by rotation between the two royal gates”.

The Judge said in order to maintain the “status quo ante” he had restrained the parties, especially the respondents, from “engaging in any preparations towards or the enskinment of the next Buipewura until the Northern Regional House of Chiefs has determined the right of the parties as to who should be next Buipewura”. The Gbungbunsowura R K Wumnaya, a member of the Lebu Royal Gate brought the application for an interim injunction against the respondents.

The late Buipewura, Saaka Toti Chinchanko II died on October 18, 2005.
