Police searching for assemblywoman’s assailants

Suhum, March 03, GNA – The Suhum police are searching for a gang of assailants who attacked the Assembly woman of Suhum New Town, Mrs Gladys Ansah Kumi, at a funeral and snatched her hand-bag containing money.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Mrs Kumi said for the past two years, some group of thugs had been harassing people in the area, especially the Suhum roundabout, and she had been reporting it to the police and the district assembly.

She said on February 18, she attended a funeral at Komfa, a suburb of Suhum and whilst there, there was a misunderstanding among some of the youths which turned into fight.

Mrs Kumi said as an Assembly member for the area, she went to intervene and whilst advising the people to stop fighting, a gang of criminals led by one Akortia, emerged and started beating her without any provocation.

She alleged that Akortia used a gon-gon to hit her head several times.
