Awutu-Effutu-Senya records 5,496 births in 2005

Winneba, Feb. 23, GNA – The Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Office of the Department of Births and Deaths recorded 5,496 births and 612 deaths in 2005. The exercise fetched the State 22,910,000 cedis in revenue, Miss Hanna Eshun, District Officer for the Department told the Ghana News Agency at Winneba. She said the District had five registration centres at Winneba, Bawjiase, Senya-Beraku, Kasoa and Awutu.

Miss Eshun said 2,883 of those born were males while 2,613 were females, adding that Winneba registered 1,616 births, the highest. She said Winneba Registration Office collected the highest revenue of 11,160,000 cedis; followed by Odupongkpehe/Kasoa 2,740,000 cedis; Awutu-Bawjiase 2,180,000 cedis; Senya-Beraku 1,960,000 cedis and Awutu-Beraku 1,560,000 cedis.

Miss Eshun announced for outfit’s plans to launch special outreach programme to enable the Department to widen its coverage to the remote areas in the District this year to register more births and deaths to help to update the country’s population data.

She praised Plan Ghana, a nongovernmental organisation operating in the District, for the effective collaboration with the Department and called for the maintenance of the bonds of friendship between them. Mr Eshun appealed to Assembly Members and other stakeholders in the area to educate and encourage spouses in the District especially those in the rural communities to register all their births. This, she noted, would help the Assembly to plan its development programmes effectively.
