Herbal medicine practitioner calls for sector Ministry

Nkoranza (B/A) Feb. 13, GNA – Dr. Iddirisu Fosu, a herbal medical practitioner at Nkoranza has appealed to the Government to set up a Ministry that would help promote herbal medicine.

Dr. Fosu, who is in-charge of Suro Nyame Herbal Centre at Nkoranza is noted for the cure of retention of urine.

He told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview that some chronic diseases had been successfully treated with herbal medicine. Dr. Fosu announced that he had cured more than 2,000 people who suffered from retention of urine since he started practicing in 1989 and that he had been receiving referral cases from hospitals. He urged the Government to recognize the important role played by herbalists and encourage and support them.

Dr. Fosu suggested the opening of herbal clinics at district capitals to be managed by herbalists.

He, however, advised herbalists to refer certain cases beyond their competence to hospitals for proper diagnosis and cure and avoid experimenting with the lives of patients.
