Koreans award scholarships to seven students

Tema, Feb. 13, GNA – A total of 11 million cedis has been presented in the form of scholarships to seven brilliant but needy students by the Korea Scholarship Awards Association in Ghana (KSAAG).

Of the amount, one million cedis each went to three students in the Junior Secondary School category while two students in Senior Secondary School received 1.5 million cedis each. Two university students also received 2.5 million cedis each for the first term in the 2006 academic year.

Mr Lee Tae-Yeol, Chairman of KSAAG, indicated that there will be three presentations to the students in a year — in April, August and December — adding that the seven were selected from 35 applicants. He said the scholarship which was formerly awarded to Korea students has been extended to brilliant Ghanaian students whose parents work with Ghana-Korea Companies.

Mr Tae-Yeol explained that, the Association recognized the need for education as a requisite tool for human resource development. It is also in fulfilment of its responsibility to their workers, he added. He congratulated the seven beneficiaries and urged all Ghanaian students to work much harder in order to attract the scholarships.
