Achimota Old Students asked to assist their Alma Mater

Accra, Feb 8, GNA – The 1956 year group of Achimota School on Wednesday called on other old students to assist in renovating dilapidated facilities in the School to enable the school to maintain its standards.

Mr Richard Oko Nartey, Chairman of the Projects Committee of the group, made the call when the group presented keys to the Arts School after refurbishing it at a cost of 150 million cedis. He said the group had also provided 100 drawing tables for two classrooms, painted the walls, fixed fans in commemoration of its group’s golden jubilee celebration.

Mr Nartey said four classrooms were left untouched and any year group could take up the challenge.

Mrs Adelaide Kwami, Headmistress, said formerly the School relied on the ordinary classroom tables, which were not suitable for drawing, adding that the new drawing tables would be put to good use. She said the student population of 1,600 and maintenance of the facilities was a big problem.

She said the School known for its excellent academic record had good and experienced teachers, who wanted the best out of the students.
