Oyeeman Wereko Ampem II laid to rest

Amanokrom (E/R), Feb. 5, GNA- The late Oyeeman Wereko Ampem II, Chief of Amanokrom and Gyasehene of the Akuapem Traditional Area, was laid to rest at the early hours of Sunday, after lying in-state for four days, amidst funeral rites.

At a non-denominational thanksgiving service, organize in his honour at Amanokrom on Sunday, the Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church, the Most Reverend Dr Robert Aboagye-Mensah, advised leaders to often remember who they were, before they assumed leadership.

He explained that, this would make them humble and consider themselves as equal to the people they serve, seek God in whatever they do and work consciously as the late Oyeeman Ampem did. The Most Rev. Dr Aboagye-Mensah reminded Ghanaians that maintaining good governance was not the responsibility of only rulers but also all the people.

The late Oyeeman Ampem II, who was born on October 29, 1930 and died on November 26, 2005 at the age of 75, was enstooled as the Chief of Amanokrom on August 4, 1975 and reigned for 30 years.

The late Chief who was an economist, a statistician and a business executive, was known in private life as Emmanuel Nii Noi Amaboe. The late Oyeeman Ampem II attended the University College of the Gold Coast, London School of Economics and Havard University. He served the country in various capacities; as a lecture at the University, the first Ghanaian Government Statistician, Commissioner for Economic Affairs, under the National Liberation Council Government, Chancellor of the University of Ghana and held other public and international positions.

The late Oyeeman Ampem II left behind a widow, Mrs Liticia Omaboe, four children and 11 grand children.
