Apam (C/R), Feb. 1, GNA – Mr Fred Oscar Abban, Presiding Member of the Gomoa District Assembly, has appealed to His Eminence Peter Cardinal Appiah Turkson to do all within his power to block the transfer of Dr Charles Ntiamoah Takyi, Medical Superintendent of Apam Catholic Mission Hospital to Cape Coast.
Mr Abban said Dr Takyi’s exit from the Hospital would have an adverse effect on health delivery in the Gomoa District since the facility served as the District Hospital.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview at Apam on Tuesday, the Presiding Member said the argument that because Dr Takyi was a medical specialist he should be in the regional capital was untenable.
He said with the inception of the National Health Insurance Scheme, there would be much work in the districts, which would need the attention of medical personnel of Dr Takyi’s calibre. “Dr Takyi has carved a name for the Apam Catholic Hospital where people from all walks of life come to receive treatment and since his elevation to his present position was facilitated by the Hospital it would not be proper if he is whisked away to Cape Coast”, Mr Abban pleaded.
He appealed to the Catholic Health Directorate of the Archdiocese to find out why nurses were leaving the Hospital to seek greener pastures and comfort in other hospitals.
According to Mr Abban his investigations had revealed that about 13 nurses had left the Hospital in less than two years.
