Mobile phone thief jailed 18 months

Sekondi, Jan 31, GNA – A Sekondi District Magistrate’s Court on Monday sentenced Mawuil Amevor, a 20-year old unemployed, to 18 months imprisonment in hard labour for stealing a Nokia mobile phone. He pleaded guilty.

Prosecuting, Police Sergeant Adu Kyeremeh said on January 09 Bashiru Mohammed was in court to answer a charge of driving without licence. Amevor, who was also in the court on a charge of stealing a mobile phone, told Mohammed to put off his mobile phone because court was in session.

Sergeant Kyeremeh said after switching off his mobile phone, Mohammed gave it to Amevor to pass it on to his brother who was sitting near the convict.

As soon as Amevor received the phone he left the court and took to his heels. Mohammed raised an alarm and some policemen on duty chased and arrested him at Sekondi Zongo with the mobile phone.
