Apam (C/R), Jan 30, GNA – Members of the Gomoa District Assembly, have expressed concern about the delay in the take-off of the District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme.
They also express regret about the low registration and the payment of the 72,000 cedis premium and attributed them to poor planning and ineffective strategies.
The District Chief Executive (DCE), Ms Joyce Aidoo, complained about the delay when she called on the Assembly Members to approve a 10 million-cedi grant to the District Mutual Health Insurance management to speed up registration and issuance of cards.
She noted that while many Districts in the Central Region had started operating their schemes, the Gomoa District was lagging behind. Ms Comfort Morgan, Assemblywoman for Apam, said the dissolution of the 13-member Implementation Committee for the scheme by Dr Theophilus Koomson, the Scheme Manager, due to financial constraints to pay their travelling and transport allowance and to provide logistics had delayed the take-off.
Members were charged with the monitoring of the day-to-day activities of the Insurance Collectors among other staff but due to the dissolution of the Committee some of them bolted with the premium they had collected, the Assemblywoman stated. Ms Morgan noted that the DCE had pressed for the approval of the grant and called on the management and staff to be proactive to cover as many communities as possible for the scheme to be operational in the District.
