Speed up creation of new district – Omanhene

Gomoa Adzintem (C/R), Jan 30, GNA – The Omanhene of the Akyeampem Traditional Area, Nana Obirifo Ahunkor Ahor Ankobea, has called on the government to speed up the creation of new district out of the present Gomoa District to boost economic and social development.

He said the creation would attract attention to the construction of abandoned roads and other infrastructure in the eastern part of the District, which had been neglected for too long.

Nana Obirifo Ankobea said this when he inaugurated a 450-million cedi palace constructed by the Chiefs and people of the Gomoa Adzintem in the Central Region at the weekend.

The new palace was started by late Nana Asare-Appiah and completed by Nana Asare Andoh through royalties.

Nana Obirifo Ankobea expressed regret that the vastness of the current district had impoverished majority of the people especially those on the eastern and western corridors of the area.

He praised Nana Asare Andoh for putting money due the stool to good use and urged other chiefs in the area to emulate the Adzintemhene for his efforts to improve standard of living of the people.

Nana Obirifo appealed to the government to ensure the completion of work on the road from Potsin to Awomerew, because the contractor had removed his equipment from the site.

Nana Asare Andoh noted that the town was able to complete a number of development projects because there was absolute peace and called on investors to take advantage to create jobs for the youth of the area. He also expressed concern about the shoddy work being done by the contractor on the road and asked the Minister of Road and Transport to order him to reconstruct a bridge in the centre of the town.

Mrs Ampah-Korsah, Principal of the Panfokrom Women Training Institute, who chaired the function called on parents in the Gomoa, Agona, Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa and Awutu-Effutu-Senya districts to send their daughters to the Institute to learn vocations.
