Koforidua, Jan 27, GNA – Fifteen British volunteers would be visiting Ghana in July this year under the International Air Cadet Association (IACA) exchange programme.
This was announced by the Secretary General of IACA, Wing Commander Mick Eveleigh, when he paid a courtesy call on Mr Yaw Barimah, the Eastern Regional Minister, as part of his eight days’ visit to Ghana to find out if the country has the necessary facilities to participate in the international exchange programme of the association. As part of the visit Air Cadet Corps from the Koforidua Secondary School, Ghana Secondary School and the Pope John Secondary School organized a parade in honour of Wing Commander Eveleigh. He said Ghana, which is the first country in Africa to apply for membership of the association, was on probation and its application would be considered at the next congress of the association in Canada in September.
Wing Commander Eveleigh said the association, which was founded in 1948 by Canada and the United Kingdom, now has 20 countries affiliated to it and has membership of over 45,000 young people. He said the aim of the association was not to turn the members into soldiers but to give them the necessary discipline to grow up to be good citizens.
Mr Barimah advised the cadet corps in the country to take advantage of opportunities that come their way as students to enable them to grow up to contribute to the development of the country. Later Wing Commander Eveleigh called on Daasebre Oti Boateng, the Omanhene of the New Juaben Traditional Area.
