Taxi driver jailed for stealing cement

Sekondi, Jan 27, GNA – A Sekondi District Magistrate’s Court on Friday sentenced Shadrack Mensah, a taxi driver at Inchaban near Sekondi, to 15 months imprisonment in hard labour for stealing cement. He pleaded guilty.

Prosecuting, Police Sergeant Adu Kyeremeh said on January 24, the accused broke into the store of Mr John Cobbinah at Inchaban and made away with nine bags of cement.

He said Mr Cobbinah and some men who were hiding in a nearby bush saw the convict taking away the bags of cement, arrested and handed him over to the police. The accused admitted the offence during interrogation, saying he stole the cement because he was hungry and needed money to buy food.
