963,000 AIDS Cases Detected Countrywide – Records

Nkoranza (B/A), June 19, GNA – About 963,000 AIDS cases have so far been identified in hospitals throughout Ghana, making it the third African country with the highest number of AIDS victims, according to records obtained from the Ministry of Health (MOH).

Mr Justice Isaac Gyabaa, a member of the Youth Federation and World Peace AIDS Education, an organisation under the MOH, made this known at a forum at Nkoranza on Friday to educate the people on problems associated with Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs).

Mr Gyabaa said as at December 1998, about 30 million people throughout the world were said to have been infected by the Human Immuno-deficiency Virus (HIV).

He advised the people to use condoms and avoid the use of unsterilised syringes, razors and blades.

Mr Gyabaa stressed the need for couples to be faithful to each other to avoid contracting the disease.
