Kumasi, Jan. 24, GNA – The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has given the assurance that the rehabilitation of the Kumasi Airport project was on course.
GCAA contends that with the engagement of a consultant, work had already begun.
A press statement issued by the Authority in Kumasi on Tuesday in connection with the project explained that an important project like the rehabilitation of the airport was capital-intensive and as such as this go through processes and phases which appear to delay the commencement of the project.
Fortunately, the statement said, GCAA has completed the first phase of the project which involved the selection the selection of the consultant and the Authority was now awaiting approval from the Central Tender Board to award the contract for the services, a pre-requisite which was now mandatory under the new Public Procurement Act.
The statement said Nii Adumansa-Baddoo, the Director-General of GCAA and his management team were aware that the apparent delay of the project was causing a lot of concern to the Regional Co-ordinating Council and the people of Ashanti and the country as a whole.
It said the Authority was meticulously following international standards and recommended practices for the re-design and construction of the runaway and execution of the entire project.
The statement therefore gave the assurance that when the project starts, it would be given all the necessary attention for it to be completed on schedule.
The runaway and lighting system at the Kumasi Airport are to be rehabilitated at the cost of 3.5 million dollars and is to be funded by the Ghana International Bank Limited.
