Salaga (N/R), Jan. 24, GNA – Alhaji Abubakar Saddique Boniface, Northern Regional Minister has observed that Dagbon is gradually returning to normalcy after the chieftaincy dispute and called on the people to sustain the prevailing peace.
“Taking entrenched positions in the crisis will deny the country the opportunity and dream of becoming a middle level income country”, he said.
Alhaji Boniface made the observation when briefing the Director-General of Police Operations, Assistant Commissioner of Police, (ACP) Kofi Boachie on the general security situation in the Region at Salaga on Monday.
The Minister also briefed Mr Boachie on some of the fundamental causes of conflicts in the North.
Alhaji Boniface said people were hiding under the cover of politics to mislead the people thereby thwarting the government’s efforts at securing a lasting peace in the area.
ACP Boachie said people should see the crisis in the Northern Region as a national problem and assist in resolving it amicably. He said people should use means such as mediation and dialogue to address their problems, pointing out that conflicts should be the last resort.
“The efforts of the security personnel at maintaining peace will yield no dividends if the people are not prepared for peace,” he said and advised them to tolerate one another and live in peace. At Makango in the East Gonja District, ACP Boachie told the police personnel that their job was sacrificial, adding that for them to be true servants of the people they should treat everybody equally. He suggested the opening of a police station in the township taking into consideration the important nature of the area because of the Volta Lake transport.
