Suhum, Jan. 23, GNA – The Suhum-Kraboa-Coaltar District branch of World Vision International, Ghana, has presented assorted drugs and food items worth about 10 million cedis to 15 People Living With HIV/AIDS (PLWHAs) who form the “Anidasu Group” at Suhum.
Miss Patience Salu Programme Officer in-charge, making the presentation said the organisation would organize a three-week training income-generation course for the members of the Group at Coaltar in January.
She said they would be trained in making soap, batik tie and dye and pomade to empower them to earn incomes to improve their standard of living.
Miss Salu asked them not to allow the infection of the pandemic become a hindrance to their activities but should rather make them beneficial to society in the fight against the disease.
Mr Dan Lartey, member of the Greater Accra AIDS Committee, appealed to society to tolerate those living with HIV/AIDS because it was not their will to contract the disease. He said no cure had been discovered for the disease therefore, it was important for people to know their HIV/AIDS status and protect themselves against infection.
The Founder of Anidasu Group, Mrs Elizabeth Obeng Okrah, said an Orphanage had been established at Suhum for HIV/AIDS deceased children. It comprised a hostel, classroom, dining hall and chapel for the children.
Mrs Okrah said in addition to formal education, the children would be trained in Christian life and vocational skills to enable them live meaningfully. 23 Jan.06
