Kraboa Coaltar (E/R), Jan. 19, GNA – Residents of Kraboa Coaltar in the Suhum District have expressed gave concern about the closure of three toilets located at vantage points in the town due to the lack of maintenance, which has given rise to indiscriminate defecating along river banks and on refuse dumps.
Some residents have expressed the fear that it could lead to the outbreak of cholera or other diseases if not checked and urged the authorities to provide the town with toilets immediately. Opanin Frank Owusu, a farmer told the GNA that “it’s a pity that men have to wait until the women finish before they take their turn because both sexes are now sharing the remaining three-seater toilet serving the entire community.
Mr Billy Yatsi, an Agricultural Extension Officer in the town attributed the problem to the lack of constant maintenance, which had led to the collapsed of all the three toilets. He described it as very worrying and shameful for the men and women to share the same toilet.
The Assemblyman for Coaltar, Mr Yaw Bekoe corroborated the points raised by the other residents and appealed to the District Assembly to rehabilitate all the three 30 seater toilets as soon as possible. At Kraboa the situation was not different as the headteacher of the Methodist Primary School, Mr Samuel Out told the GNA that although the school had a toi let for the children there was none in the town for the town.
He said the MP for the area, Mr Godfred Otchere had stated a toilet project in the town but abandoned it. Mr Out called for immediate action to alleviate the plight of the residents and appealed to the MP to complete the toilet project.
