Caretaker fined for assault

Sekondi, Jan.19, GNA – James Memble, an employee of the Ghana Cement Works (Ghacem) was last Wednesday fined one million cedis on his own plea by a Sekondi District Magistrate Court for assault. Memble would serve six months imprisonment in hard labour in default. Prosecuting, Police Inspector Andam Okyere, said father of the complainant Lydia Storph, was the caretaker of a house at Kojokrom where the accused lived.

He said the house was later sold to one Salifu who made the accused the caretaker but there was a misunderstanding between family of the complainant and the accused therefore, they were ejected from the house. The prosecutor said on May 4 last year, the complainant went to the house to collect some money from a tenant but the accused ordered her out of the house.

He said the accused became offended when the complainant refused to leave and assaulted her.

Police Inspector Okyere said a report was made to the Police and after investigations, accused was charged with the offence.
