W/R Police CID ordered to produce six million cedis on Jan 18

Takoradi, Jan 17, GNA – Mr George Koomson, a Takoradi Circuit Court B judge, on Tuesday directed the Western Regional Criminal Investigations Division (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to produce six million cedis it was holding on to on January 18.

He was told that the CID was investigating some policemen who are alleged to have shared the money.

Mr Koomson ordered that if the Regional CID was unable to produce the money, the names of all the affected officers must be brought to court for them to face prosecution. The judge explained that the money formed part of an 80 million cedis fraud case before his court.

“The Police are supposed to be peace officers and I expect them to produce the six million cedis on Wednesday,” he said. Mr Fred Akuamoah, who is standing trial for allegedly defrauding a businesswomen of 80 million cedis, told the court that he had refunded 11 million cedis to the police but only 5,000,000 was brought to court.
