Garden boy jailed for unlawful sex

Accra, June 16, GNA – An Accra Circuit Tribunal on Wednesday sentenced Salifu Hamidu, a garden boy, to seven years in prison in hard labour for defiling a 13-year-old girl.

Hamidu, 19, pleaded guilty to defilement and was convicted accordingly. Police Inspector Alex Yartey Tawiah told the tribunal, chaired by Mr Charles Louis Quist, that Hamidu and the victim live in the same house at Maamobi in Accra.

He said on the night of May 25, this year, while the victim’s father had gone to work and her mother was sleeping in the open, Hamidu sneaked into the room where the victim was sleeping and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her.

The prosecutor said in the process, the victim’s mother heard a noise coming from her room. But, surprisingly, she saw Hamidu coming from the room and explained that he saw a mouse entering the room so he went there to kill it.

Inspector Tawiah said the victim then came out and narrated the incident to her mother who reported the matter to the Kotobabi Police.
