US First Lady to visit during weekend

US First Lady Laura Bush will visit Ghana at the weekend, Ghana’s presidential spokesman said.

Kwabena Agyepong said Bush was scheduled to arrive in the country on Sunday then fly out to Liberia Monday morning for the inauguration ceremonies of Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.

After Liberia, she will return to Ghana the same day.

Agyepong said President John Agyekum Kufuor was “looking forward” to meeting Bush.

The US First Lady will pay a courtesy call on Kufuor on Tuesday.

According to a programme from the US embassy in Accra, Bush will speak at Accra Teacher Training College on “teacher training and education”.

She will also tour a teaching hospital where she will visit patients with HIV/ AIDS.

Bush’s visit to West Africa will also take her to Nigeria.
