Curfew in Bimbilla

A Dusk to Dawn curfew has been imposed in Bimbilla in the Nanumba North District of the Northern Region by the District Security Council.

This follows a fight on Monday between rival gates in a chieftaincy dispute during which a number of houses were burned to ashes.

Many people sustained various degrees of injury, which a source close to the district hospital said were either gun shot or cutlass wounds.

They are at present on admission at the district hospital here.

The town is virtually deserted as many of the residents have fled leaving shops, chop bars, drinking bars as well as business establishments locked.

The District Chief Executive, Salifu Saeed, attributed the cause of the fight to power outage, which disrupted a naming ceremony being performed by a member of the Nakpa Naa gate.

The DCE said that members of the group alleged that power cut was an act of sabotage by a worker of Volta River Authority (VRA) who belongs to the Andani gate and therefore mobilized themselves and attacked the worker, Mohammed Nogpgomam, in his house.

Nagpgomam?s relatives rushed to his aid and a free- for ? all ensued during which gunshots were fired.

The DCE has expressed concern about the tension in the town, saying military and police personnel were patrolling the town to maintain law and order.

He said that a number of people had been arrested in connection with the incident.
