Accra, Jan. 9, GNA – Former President Jerry John Rawlings left Accra on Sunday for Maputo, Mozambique, to attend a meeting of selected group of former African Heads of State and Government. The meeting would discuss the establishment of an informal network of Former African Leaders to support the implementation of the broad objectives of the African Union and New Partnership For Africa’s Development at national, sub-regional and regional levels. The former Heads of State would also use their influence to build and project a positive image for the Continent worldwide.
The visit from January 8 to January 15 is at the invitation of the former President of Mozambique, Joaquim Alberto Chissano, a statement signed by Mr Victor E. Smith, Special Assistant and Director of Public Affairs at the office of the former President Rawlings said. Former President Rawlings’ delegation included former Foreign Minister, Mr Victor Gbeho and Mr Smith.
