Man jailed for attempting to rape married woman

Tarkwa, Jan 06, GNA – A Tarkwa Circuit court has jailed Zakari Haruna 17-and-a-half years for attempted rape, indecent assault and causing harm.

He got 15 years for attempted rape, six months for indecent assault and two years for causing harm.

Haruna pleaded guilty to all the three counts. Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Jonathan Adotey of Tarkwa Police said Zinatu Salam, 25 and unemployed, and the accused Zakari Haruna were illegal gold diggers at Prestea.

On December 26 last year Zinatu was sleeping under a shed with her husband Seidu Abdul Salam when Haruna attempted to remove her pants. She shouted and her husband grabbed Haruna but the accused struggled with him, bit his left thigh and got away. The accused left behind his shirt, a pair of slippers and a cap and was later arrested.
