Court bonds over farmer for threat of death

Kumawu (Ash), Jan 5, GNA – The Kumawu circuit court has bonded over a 29-year-old farmer who threatened to shoot his brother-in-law to death to be of good behaviour.

Kwasi Appiah who pleaded guilty will pay a 10 million-cedi fine if he breaks the bond or in default will go to prison for 12 months. The court also ordered the Kumawu police to intensify their search to retrieve the gun, which was allegedly used to threaten Osman Yusif, the complainant and brother-in-law of the accused. Police Chief Inspector Godfred Anthony Sakyi told the court, presided over by Mr Frank Owusu-Afriyie that the wife of the complainant lived in the family house with Appiah.

He said on May 22, last year, the complainant went to visit his wife and when Appiah saw him he accused him (complainant) of not being able to take good care of the wife and child.

Chief Inspector Sakyi said before the complainant could say anything, Appiah rushed into his room brought out a gun and attempted to shoot the complainant but the gun was wrestled from him. In his defence, the accused said that what he took was a stick and not a gun and this prompted the court to ask the police to intensify their search for the alleged gun. Jan. 05 05
