Mfantseman District Mutual Health Insurance takes off

Saltpond (CR), Dec 29, GNA – Paid up clients of the Mfantseman District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme now have access to free health service. This followed the signing of the Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) between the Managements of nine health facilities for the Scheme to become operational.

The facilities were, Saltpond District Hospital, Anomabo, Essuehyia, Abeadze Dominase and Otuam Health Centres. The others were, Biriwa and Nanabin Clinics and two private clinics at Mankessim, Finba and Prince Charles.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency at Saltpond on Wednesday, Mr Francis Yankson, Public Relations Officer of the Scheme, said 25,000 premium holders had registered saying, out of the number 3,297 were from the formal sector, 11,814 children below 18 years, and 379 aged above 70 years and 57 indigents.

Mr Yankson said 60 million cedis had been collected as premium from the informal sector.

Mr Godfred Gyebi Arthur, Scheme Manager, said claim cards had been dispatched to the premium holders and appealed to those had not got theirs to contact the office for their cards. When the GNA visited the Saltpond District Hospital on Wednesday, Mr Hayford Frimpong, Hospital Administrator, said no premium holder had reported for treatment on the first day.
