FM station organises HIV/AIDS awareness competition

Techiman (B/A) Dec. 25, GNA – Mr. John Owusu Asante, General Manager of ASTA FM Radio Station in Techiman in Brong-Ahafo Region has called for a strategic framework that would aim at preventing and mitigating the socio-economic impact of HIV/AIDS on communities and the nation as a whole. This framework would contribute to the reduction of new infections among the youth aged between 15 and 19, improve health delivery and also reduce individual and societal vulnerability to the establishment of a multi-sectoral framework as well as co-ordinating the programme.

Mr. Asante made the call in a speech read for him at a Rap City Champion of Champions competition organised by the station under the Theme, “To be aware of HIV/AIDS”, that brought together nine competing youth musicians in the municipality. Baffour Kyei Alex-Zua came first with 78 points and was presented with a “14-inch” colour television, Kwadwo Poku placed second with 70 points and received a VCD Player, while Acheampong Danso came third with 67 points and was presented with a standing fan.

Each of them received a wall clock as prize. Mr. Asante noted that HIV/AIDS could not have been deadly if the youth had taken great precaution. Mr. Edmond Samah, Marketing Manager of Asta FM, in a welcoming address said the show would help the station to select the best three competitors to represent it at Rap City Competitions. He said the nine competitors were selected from ASTA Rap City programmes organised every Friday and commended the competitors for their commitment and participation.
