HIV/AIDS cases increased in the Kwahu South District

Kwahu Praso (E/R), Dec 16, GNA – The Kwahu South District has registered 125 HIV cases since the beginning of this year as against 90 cases last year.

Out of 1,101 blood donors since November last year, 125 of them were found to be HIV positive.

The District Director of Health Services (DDHS), Dr Joseph Larbi Opare, said this at the celebration of the World AIDS Day under the theme “Stop AIDS, keep the promise” at Kwahu Praso, He said about 400,000 Ghanaians had acquired the virus and this figure is expected to increase to 500,000 by 2015.

”This trend can affect the country’s productive labour, mostly the youthful population between the ages of 15 to 49 years.”
