Mpraeso, Dec.16, GNA – The Kwahu South District Assembly spends one million cedis daily in the exercise to combat the destructive activities of nomadic Fulani herdsmen and their herds of cattle within the area. The amount is used for feeding, fuel, logistics and upkeep of a detachment of security personnel under “Operation Cowleg” to drive the herdsmen and their cattle from the area to ensure peace and development within the district.
Nana Kofi Onwona Asante, District Chief Executive announced this at the first meeting of the Fourth Session of the Assembly at Mpraeso on Wednesday.
He said the huge financial burden was affecting development programmes of the Assembly and appealed to the Eastern Regional Co-ordinating Council for reimbursement to save the assembly from imminent financial crisis since the exercise had assumed national dimension.
The DCE said the Assembly managed to collect 743.3 million cedis as revenue from its traditional sources at the end of September this year, representing 79.6 per cent of the 974.6 million cedis targeted for the year.
He said the Assembly had received 2.8 billion cedis being three quarters of its share of the District Assemblies Common Fund that were being used to finance some development projects to enhance the living standards of the people.
Ms Susana Mensah, Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, urged the Assembly members to educate the people within their communities to register with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to ensure affordable and efficient health delivery system. 16 Dec.05
