Cape Coast, Dec.16, GNA – Mr George Asiamah, Deputy Commissioner of Police and Director-General in charge of Legal and Special Duties of the Ghana Police Service, on Friday urged Police personnel to build an efficient, effective and incorruptible Police Service that would stand the test of time and satisfy the aspirations of Ghanaians. Addressing a day’s training course for District, Crime officers and Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) Commanders in the Central region, he asked Senior police personnel to be knowledgeable, hardworking, honest, incorruptible and respect themselves to serve as role models for their subordinates and also win public confidence. Topics discussed included public order and public safety-civil disturbances management, crime combat, human rights and democratic policing and professional ethics and police practice.
DCP Asiamah noted that the Police Service was undergoing transformation and the training programme was to equip them to work harder and face the numerous problems confronting the Service as a law enforcement agency.
He said the upsurge of crime during the Christmas festivities could not be over emphasised and therefore, called on the officers to take the course seriously and share the information they acquired with their subordinates to collectively combat crime in the society.
“It is my hope that you will continue to train and train your men at all times, so that rain or shine, you will be ever ready to perform to the best of your ability and be credit to yourself and to the Service at large,” He stressed.
“We must at all times maintain high professional standards so that collectively we can build a better image for the Service,” He declared. Assistant Commissioner of Police and Central Regional Police Commander, Rose Bio Atinga, said since crime had become complex, there was the need for the police to regularly build their capacity. She asked the participants to take the programme seriously to enhance their knowledge and discharge their duties more effectively and efficiently. 16 Dec.05
