Adventist Girls’ Secondary School wins inter-district debate

Kumasi, Dec 14, GNA – The Adventist Girls Secondary School, Kwabre district champions, has won the Ashanti regional inter-district secondary schools debate held at Wesley College in Kumasi. The school will therefore, represent Ashanti in the zonal competition later this year.

“The relatively young school spoke in favour of the topic, “The current Liberation of the Airwaves is a Mark for Democracy”, while Saint Louis Secondary School spoke against it. In all, 18 schools representing 18 districts in the region took part in the competition organized by the Ministry of Education and Sports (MOES) and the Ghana Education Service (GES). Speaking after the competition, Pastor Odomse Akuoko-Nyantakyi, Headmaster of the school, commended Jenifer Sarfo, Diana Akua Mansah, Regina Asamoah and Linda Ankomanin who represented the school for their hard work. He also expressed appreciation to Mr A.S. Asamoah, head of the debating club, Mrs Margaret Appiah, Naomi Yeboah, Beatrice Akuffo and Marian Anane Agyemang for their immense contributions towards achieving the result.

Mr Akuoko-Nyantakyi said in spite of the achievement by the school with such humble beginnings, it faced a number of problems, which include inadequate infrastructure, water and lack of vehicle as well as lack of staff accommodation. He said, however, that these problems would not deter the school administration from working hard to achieve academic and moral excellence but called on non-governmental organisations and stakeholders in education to come to the aid of the school.
