Takrowase (E/R), Dec 14, GNA – The Kwaebibirem District Assembly has selected a number of modules to initiate to generate employment for over 3,000 youths within the next six months. The assembly soon register interested unemployed youth in the district to enable them to take advantage of the programme. This was announced by Mr Yaw Yiadom-Boakye, the District Chief Executive, in a speech read for him at the 28th passing-out ceremony of the Takrowase Youth Leadership Training Institute, near Kade on Wednesday. He said the programme would assist the trainees with inputs and where possible, some allowance, till the person was able to market his or her products.
Mr Yiadom-Boakye cautioned that the inputs and the allowance were not for free and that they would be repaid at the end of the gestation period. In all, 126 people completed a two-year course in general agriculture, electricals, catering and fashion and design. He said the Ministry of Manpower and Employment had established a National Employment Task Force to develop a youth employment programme to facilitate job creation and placement for the youth. Mr Yiadom-Boakye said the Kwaebibirem District Assembly had established an integrated centre for employable skills to compliment the efforts of the Takrowase Institute.
Mr Alex Owusu of the National Youth Council said the government would next month launch a one trillion-cedi youth employment fund that the youth could access for self-employment. He appealed to people with skills to form co-operatives and register with the district assemblies’ youth employment task forces to benefit from the fund. The Principal of the Institute, Mr Paul Bawah Yakah, said there was the need to prepare the youth with quality education and equip them with skills to enable them to contribute to the socio-economic development of the nation.
