Worker dies while working on hand-dug wells

Accra, Dec. 12, GNA – An employee of a local contractor constructing hand dug wells for local communities in Newmont Ghana Gold Ahafo’s concession area died on Friday in an accident while working on a well. A statement issued in Accra on Monday by Newmont Ghana said preliminary information indicated that the accident occurred when workers were removing metal moulds used for construction work on the wells.

The release expressed the Company’s regret at the fatality and said it shared in the loss with the bereaved family and the community. “Newmont is mourning the loss of this individual,” the statement said. It added that in line with Newmont’s safety procedure, internal investigations were ongoing and the Company was cooperating with the local Police.
