Northern Region CPP Remembers death of Mobilla

Tamale, Dec. 9, GNA – The Northern Region Executive of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) has called on the government and the judiciary to speed up the law process to bring the alleged killers of the late Alhaji Issah Mobilla to book to heal the wounds of the party and his family. Mr Albert Atutiga, Regional Chairman of the party made the call at a ceremony in Tamale to commemorate the first anniversary of the death of Alhaji Mobilla, which occurred on December 9, 2004.

He said the murders of Alhaji Mobilla and Ya-Na Yakubu Andani II, King of Dagbon whose deaths occurred during the reign of the NPP administration was unfortunate and that it was a test for the government to act to win the people’s confidence.

The Regional Chairman therefore, appealed to the government to handle the two cases with maturity to enhance peace and to erase the perception by some people that the government had a hand in their deaths.

He commended the government for promoting peace in the country but expressed regret about the delay in finding justice for the murders of Alhaji Mobilla and the Dagbon King saying, “Justice delayed is justice denied”.

Mr. Atutiga also called on Dagombas to compromise and accept the burial of the late King “so that the late King will join his ancestors,” adding that the delay in burying him would not bring peace to the area. Madam Mariama Dakpemah, Northern Regional CPP Women’s Organiser, said that the CPP would, continue to monitor the events in the region, especially the case of Alhaji Mobilla to ensure that the law took its course.

Alhaji Mobilla former Regional chairman of the CPP died at a military custody after the December elections in Tamale in the wake of allegations that he processed weapons.
