Ahafo-Ano North district Health Scheme takes off

Tepa (Ash), Dec. 5, GNA – Registered members of the Ahafo-Ano North District Mutual Health Insurance Scheme (DMHIS) have began benefiting from the Scheme since December 1.

Briefing newsmen at Tepa at the weekend, Very Reverend John Wilmot Baiden, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the scheme, named Tepa district hospital, Bechem Government Hospital, Hwidiem Saint Elizabeth Catholic Hospital and all the health centres in the district as the service providers.

He said out of a population of 82,240 in the district, only 9,872 people had so far registered, representing 12 per cent and appealed to the rest register.

Very Rev. Baiden said the scheme belonged to people within the district and appealed to them to co-operate with the service providers and the scheme management team to ensure that the scheme was sustained and operated in a transparent manner.

He expressed appreciation to the DANIDA Health Support Office, PHR-Plus, the District Assembly and the National Health Insurance Council (NHIC) for their technical and financial support to the scheme. Mr Jackson Mensah, Scheme manager, said out of the 9,872 registered members, 2,905 of them paid 72,000 cedis each as premium, 769 were SSNIT contributors, 5,368 were children below 18 years with the rest being the aged, indigent and pensioners. 05 Dec.05
