Residents of Mpaha appeal for the formation of community watchdog

Mpaha (N/R), Dec. 4, GNA – Debrewura Chira-Agoro Braimah Kelly, Paramount Chief of the Debre Traditional Area in the Central Gonja District, has appealed to the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Patrick Kwarteng Acheampong to allow his people to form community watchdog committees to help fight crime in the area. He said the formation of such committees would harmonize the work of the police to provide the necessary security and protection for the people and their property.

The Debrewura made the appeal during a courtesy call on him by IGP, Mr. Acheampong who was on a duty tour of the area. The IGP inspected a 192 million-cedi Charge Office block and a 220 million cedi residential block constructed by the Central Gonja District Assembly for the Ghana Police Service to be used as community police station.

Chira-Agoro Kelly said there were 60 settlements with different ethnic groups in the traditional area and noted that the presence of a police station would help entrench peace, law and order among the people.

He said some citizens of Mpaha were prepared to provide additional residential accommodation to the Police Personnel that would be posted to the station.

The IGP commended the Central Gonja District Assembly for providing funds for the project, noting that the time had come for the communities and the District Assemblies to support the government with such facilities and not to leave everything for the government alone. The IGP also interacted with some three police personnel stationed at Awabuso and encouraged them to perform their duties diligently to enhance the image of the Police Service.

He also had similar interaction with police personnel at Fufulso and Yapei to find out their personal problems and other challenges that were hampering their operations.

The IGP promoted Lance Corporal Ibrahim Attoh Okine to Corporal for his hardwork and dedication.
