NGO organises float to support World AIDS Day celebrations

Accra, Dec. 1, GNA – The Centre for Community Studies and Action Development (CENCOSAD), a non-governmental organization engaged in HIV/AIDS advocacy, on Thursday organised a float to sensitise people in the Ga community about the dangers of the pandemic.

The float, which went through the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Nkrumah Avenue Avenue, Asafoatse Nettey Road and James Town Accra was aimed at reducing the stigma of HIV/AIDS in the community in line with the theme for the celebration of this year’s World AIDS Day: “Stop AIDS. Keep the Promise”.

CENCOSAD also aims at promoting human rights in collaboration with the German Development Service (DED).

Ms Vershin Nordumann, Adviser of the German Development Service, told the GNA that her organization, apart from supporting the celebration of World AIDS Day, also trained peer educators in and out of school to educate their colleagues about the dangers of the AIDS pandemic.

Professor Anoba Annorbah-Sarpei, Executive Director of CENCOSAD, expressed the hope that the AIDS prevalence rate in Ghana would reduce to 2.2 per cent from 3.1 per cent if educational campaigns such as the float were maintained.

He called on the youth to abstain from sex to avoid the infection and urged adults to be faithful to their partners or to use condom. Prof. Annorbah-Sarpei urged the public to continually demonstrate love and sympathy to people living with HIV/AIDS.
