Venezuelans arrested with suspected narcotic drugs

Accra, Nov. 26, GNA – The Police on Saturday arrested two Venezuelans at East Legon in Accra for allegedly possessing substances suspected to be narcotic drugs.
The two suspects, Joel Mella, 35 and Italo Cabeza Castillo, 38 were arrested by the Rapid Response Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department, Headquarters after several months of surveillance on their illicit operations and dealings in narcotic drugs.
A statement signed by ASP Kwesi Ofori, Public Relations officer, Police Headquarters, said 588 pieces of wrapped tablets suspected to be cocaine were found concealed in paper boxes in two rooms with a gross weight of 580 kilogrammes valued at 38 million dollars.
It said the suspects had been placed in police custody for further investigations while the suspected narcotic substance had been sent to the Forensic Laboratory for examination.
The police appealed to the general public to volunteer information on all suspected narcotic dealers for their arrest and assured all informants that their identity would be protected, the statement added.
