Do not derail education in community-Chief

Chiraa (B/A) Nov. 25, GNA – Barima Afari Mintah 11, Chief of Chiraa in Brong Ahafo has warned against acts that would derail efforts in promoting education in the area.

He said the traditional council would not hesitate to sanction any citizen whose activities would be detrimental to sound teaching and learning in the schools.

Barima Afari was speaking to Ghana News Agency following reports from school authorities that some unscrupulous residents of the town had turned classrooms and school compounds into their places of convenience.

Indian hemp smokers have also were having a field day as pieces of the smoked stuff were found on the compounds. Teachers and pupils claimed they used to spend about two hours every morning scrubbing and cleaning up faeces to make the classrooms safe for classes.

Barima Afari expressed his indignation at the practice and said he would personally mobilize some youth to monitor and arrest the perpetrators who would be handed over to the police.

In another development, the under 12 and 15 inter-school sports festival in Chiraa circuit has ended at Chiraa, with Akwasua Municipal Assembly Primary school snatching the soccer trophy with a 5-3 win on penalties over SDA primary school of Chiraa.

The games embraced soccer, volleyball and netball. Roman Catholic JSS took the volleyball (boys) trophy, beating Presbyterian JSS 2-0 in the final, while AME Zion primary of Kobedi took the girls division.

Speaking at the close of the games, Barima Afari, who presided, urged teachers and parents to encourage children to develop their talents for their steady development.

He said the traditional council was ready to offer any assistance in the promotion of education and advised the pupils and students to take their studies seriously.

Mr. Olo Christopher, chairman of Chiraa circuit sport committee, insurance scheme was aimed at providing quality health services, a key component to sports development, to all Ghanaians. He said the festival organised to help sharpen the sports skills of the pupils and students and to unearth individual talents. He called for assistance in the form of equipment and funds to enable the circuit to excel in regional festivals. Nov. 25 05
