Asankrangwa (W/R), Nov. 21, GNA – Mr Kofi Ankrah, a concerned parent at Asankrangwa in the Western Region has appealed passionately to the Ministries of Women and Children Affairs and Local Government to enact laws that would effectively ban children below 18 years from attending some social gatherings.
He also appealed to the Police Administration to institute measures that would ensure that gambling and other vices by children below the ages of 18 years were checked.
Mr Ankrah told the Ghana News Agency at Asankrangwa on Friday that it is appalling to see children, as young as 12 or even ten years at some social gatherings and entertainment spots and at very odd times, at the expense of their books.
He alleged that some children use snooker, table tennis and other games to gamble and attributed the falling standards of education to these vices.
Mr Ankrah urged parents, teachers and other stakeholders in education to co-ordinate their efforts to check hooliganism, disrespect and other vices among children, which he attributed largely to foreign cultural influence.
