Casual labourer faces stealing charge

Sekondi, Nov.18, GNA – Joseph Ainoo, a casual labourer on Friday appeared before a Sekondi District Magistrate’s Court for stealing and causing unlawful damage.

The accused, who pleaded not guilty was granted 10 million cedis bail to re-appear on December 12, this year.

Prosecuting, Police Sergeant Adu Kyeremeh said the accused was a casual labourer at the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) in Takoradi. He said at about 13:15 hours on October 3, this year, the accused stole a quantity of rice valued at 50,000 cedis, while he and his colleagues were loading bags of rice from a shed onto articulated trucks at the Takoradi Harbour.

Sergeant Kyeremeh said the accused damaged razor wire, valued at 4,355,000 cedis on a fence wall, while jumping over it with his booty. He said a GPHA security guard spotted and arrested the accused and took him to the security office and later, he was handed over to the Harbour Police.
