Cape Coast, Nov. 17, GNA – The Central Regional Security Council (REGSEC) on Wednesday expressed satisfaction about security measures being instituted by the authorities of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) and the Regional Police Command to curb the recent spate of attacks on students.
It said since the mounting of UCC security/police patrols on campus and intensified education on the need for students to observe basic personal safety precautions no incidents of security breach had been reported.
These were contained in a statement issued and signed by the Central Regional Coordinating Director, Mr Michael Essandoh, after an emergency meeting of the REGSEC at Cape Coast. The REGSEC called for closer collaboration between the UCC and security agencies within the Cape Coast Municipality to ensure that an atmosphere of peace and security was sustained.
According to the Council, it would follow up on issues by “providing access links” from communities away from the UCC campus and the establishment of a police station within the communities surrounding the UCC, all of which have a major impact on the security situation on the campus.
It would be recalled that two women from the university were reportedly raped, while others were stabbed and their mobile phones snatched from them.
A teacher at Nkanfoa near Cape Coast was stabbed to death on campus.
